Playa del Carmen - Home - places

Playa del Carmen is a coastal resort town in Quintana Roo, South East Mexico. It’s known for its palm-lined beaches, coral reefs and is situated along the Yucatán Peninsula's Riviera Maya strip of the Caribbean shoreline. Playa del Carmen used to be a small fishing village, but over the years has become more modern and hipper.

Its Quinta Avenida pedestrian thoroughfare (5th Avenue) runs along the powdery sands on the beach, with many types of restaurants, shops and nightspots ranging from laid-back bars to dance clubs. It is also one of the best snorkelling and diving locations in the world. Adventurers can see vibrant sea life like sea turtles, rays, dazzling corals and breathtaking underwater caverns. They also should spend time exploring the ancient ruins of the Coba Mayan Village.

People often ask if Playa del Carmen is safe to visit; It has been a safe place especially compared to other tourist destinations in Mexico and because of that there has been an increase in the number of property developments in that area.
